Christmas fun 2011

This Christmas Season was a very busy one for us but lots of fun. These are just some of the things we did. We went and saw the lights and Thanksgiving Pointe.
We had a fun party for the kids with bunco friends. We ate a very yummy breakfast thanks to Kylie. The kids did a white elephant, watched a christmas movie and colored Christmas pages.
We decorated a gingberbread house. It is a very fun new tradition that we will do every year now.
Zoe was an Angel in our family party program.
We went to the theatre a couple times. We saw Arthur Christmas and Chipwrecked.
Zoe was an Angel in her school nativity program. She did so good and she had so much fun
Zoe and Brennan had lots of fun making treats for the neighbors.
We had a fun party with friends from Spanish Fork. The kids decorated cookies, we had pizza and just visited. It was so fun to catch up on everyones lives, we dont get to see them very often.

We saw Santa. Zoe and Brennan both did really good with him. No screaming this year. Brennan was so excited to tell him he wanted a four wheeler.

Halloween!

Carving was a lot of fun this year. Zoe wanted a princess so Randall did Ariel for her. She was so excited and he did a great job.

Zoes big hair cut!

Zoe begged and begged for me to cut her hair. Her hair had always been Randalls pride and joy and he told her it was up to her to decide to cut it. I was really nervous because she looked so pretty with long hair but she looks so darling with her hair short and she loves it. It does make styling her hair much easier because it isn't as snarly.

Friend Halloween Party!

We had a friend halloween party with some friends from Spanish Fork. It is impossible to get a good picture of all the kids looking at the camera.

Zoe and Parker don't really remember each other because they were both really little when we lived in Spanish Fork but they became friends right away. To be honest Zoe has a crush on Parker.

Pumpking Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch with Zoes preschool. The kids loved it cause we went through a maze and they had stuff to play on.

Corn Bellies

For family night on Monday in October we went over to Corn Bellies at Thanksgiving Point. It was a blast. They had rides and games and playgrounds and a princess and jump houses. We were there for 3 hours before the kids got tired.

Brennans bday!

Brennan turned 2 on October 6th. We had a Buzz party for him. He was so excited about his buzz cake. We gave him a bike that has no pedals. It is a tmk strider and it is supposed to help them balance so they can go to a regular bike without training wheels when they are bigger. He is crazy on it. He already puts his feet up when he goes down a hill and balances on it. We scored big time when we got him this.

Conference!

For Conference this time I really wanted to make it fun for my kids. So i put together some fun baskets for them filled with treats, and coloring projects.
We also built a fort and got their blankets out. I didn't know if this would work for them to pay attention but it did. They seriously were so quiet and sat threw the first session. I will for sure be doing this again!

Brennans first camping trip

We finally took Brennan on his first camping trip. It was short and sweet, just one night. This little boy was born to be in the mountains. He was so happy to be there and loved the four wheeler. He loved the fact that he could play in the dirt and i didn't care. He also loved going with daddy to try and find an elk.

Timp cave, preschool

In August we hiked up to the Timpanogos Cave. It was my first time ever doing that. I was a little nervous to go inside but it was so much fun. Zoe hiked the whole thing by herself and she also was so good in the cave. Both the kids thought the cave was awesome. Im sure we will do that again.
I am way late on this post but Zoe started her second year of preschool at miss Tammys. She loves school and loves miss Tammy.

Saint George trip

This last week I got the opportunity to go to Saint George with my mother in law and sister in law. It was a blast. We went to see the Help (Which is a great movie, i recommend anyone to see it.) we did some shopping, had some very yummy and very different food and we also went and saw The Little Mermaid at the tuachan. Thank you so much Judy and Krysten for a great time. We for sure need to do it again.

Thanksgiving Point Farm

Zoe is my little cowgirl so she really wanted to go to the farm at Thanksgiving Point after her birthday. We went with 2 of Zoes best friends from Spanish Fork. They fed the animals, rode the ponies, and went on a wagon ride. Zoe was in Heaven.

Zoe had a birthday. She is 4 now and it is so true that when they turn 4 they become so nice and dont cry all the time. She still has her moments but its not as bad as 3 was. For her birthday party we did a cowgirl party. She is such a cowgirl. We made decorated cowgirl hats, had a pinata and played pin the horn on the unicorn. She had so much fun and was very spoiled.

Summer recap!

This summer has been so much fun and we have had a lot going on. We did some swimming with Jaidyn and grandma.
Brennan helped daddy put the sprinkler system in. He loves helping in the yard.
Zoe and Brennan have had a lot of moments where they play so well together. Having them so close together in age is starting to pay off.

The two babies were worn out from playing so hard that they sat in that stroller and ate crackers while Zoe and Stratton chased each other with squirt guns.

This pas week we had Zoe and Brennans cousins stay at grandmas house with us for two nights. Zoe was loving having them there and was sad to see them go. We went to Thanksgiving Point Childrens Gardens and played. I didn't even know that was there so im glad we went cause my kids loved playing in the water and going through the tunnel and seeing all of the fun activities they have. We will for sure be going back to that place.

4th of July!

These pictures are out of order but oh well. After playing in the water we went to our new neighborhood to watch fireworks and meet a lot of the neighbors. Zoe made friends right away and now she is so excited to move by them. Brennan of course found the popcorn and was in heaven. Such a boy to just want food.

This kid cracks me up. He always gives me the funniest faces, his personality is so fun!
We played on the slide and in the pool after the parade. It was a blast! Zoe and her cousin really know how to pose.
Zoe loves her daddy. He can make her smile in any situation. Definite daddys girl.

We started off the 4th of July this year with the Freedum 5k and 10k. Randall did the 10k and me, my mom, Alisa and Makayla did the 5k. It was my first race ever doing so i was really nervous but i did it in 33 minutes. I was so glad I did it and hope to do more races. We went to the parade after and the kids enjoyed seeing the princess and the star wars floats.

On Sunday we took a drive up to Strawberry resevoir and played in the mountains. The kids thought it was so cool that there was snow up there still. We also found a very cute Christmas tree so we stood it up and took a picture.

Miss Utah, our house!

Alisa and I had the chance to go to the miss Utah pageant last night to support my mom. She is a hostess up there all week. It was a lot of fun and I have learned that these girls love my mom. I personally think she is the greatest! On our way back to the car we ran into Reagan from Good Things Utah. She was so nice and I felt like we had just met a huge celebrity and of course we have to get pictures. Don't mind the background in the picture, we were in the parking garage.
We are sooo excited, our house is almost done. I believe it will be done in two weeks, so we will probably move in the middle of July. We were a little worried about the colors together but after looking at it a few times i love it. So for those of you that would like to come see it please come after we move in, we love visitors.

The strawberry days rodeo was so fun. I couldn't get the kids to look at the camera cause they were so amazed by the animals. I did catch one of Brennan showing me his teeth.
Zoe was in the strawberry days childrens parade. I thought she was the best dressed and the cutest girl there.

This summer has been so fun so far. We have gone on a hike, done a lot of swimming, gone to 2 parades, and played on grandpas slide. I love summer time and love doing things with my family.

I have had request to post pictures of our new house. This is where it is at right now. We are hoping it is going to be done within the next month. We are soo excited!
Brennan is so obsessed with Elk right now. All he wants to do all day is watch elk fight on you tube with grandpa. He is Brennans favorite person right now. It is so cute when they sit and watch animal shows and you tube videos.

Zoe started swimming lessons today. She did so good. She was going all the way under water by the end of class. I have never been able to get her to do that.

Expressions Dance Concert

Zoe and her best friend Laney were in the same dance class this year. They were dressed as Rainbow Brite. They both look so cute!

Memorial Day weekend

For Memorial Day weekend we went up to heber and stayed in a house with the whole Edwards family. I feel like I didn't see Zoe the whole weekend because she was having so much fun with her cousins. We did shopping in park city and played games, did crafts and even learned how to crochet. It was a blast and I am excited for next years trip.

The kids and I went and saw Kung Fun Panda 2. It was a way cute movie and Zoe loved it. Brennan fell asleep half way through the movie, I think he gets that from me.

Zoe graduated from her first year of preschool. She loves miss Tammy and can't wait to go back
We did a 5k for intermountain healing hearts. It was so fun and it was also my first 5k. Randall won it by two minutes and I walked the whole thing with the kids in 41 minutes.

The Heart mom luncheon

My mom and I got to go to a Heart Mom Luncheon. It was for all moms with children that have Congenital Heart Defects. It was a blast. They did glitter toes, had Cafe Rio catered, and did a very cute video with all the heart heros in it. I am so glad my mom came and am so grateful for all of her support.

The Easter bunny brought Zoe and Brennan scooters. I believe this has been the best purchase the easter bunny has ever made for these two. They love them.

I tried to get a cute picture of these two with their Easter outfits on but they were just not cooperating. They still look way cute though!

We did an Easter egg hunt at the park with the ward. Zoe was so fast at finding her eggs, and Brennan was catching on so fast and didnt want to stop.
Zoe made a cute hat, and basket at school and they did an Easter egg hunt. Zoe has loved preschool this year.
Grandma Edwards did a Easter egg hunt this year but instead of candy they got prizes. I think it was a brilliant idea. My kids have loved these microphones.

My Birthday!

The weather was warm for a couple days so Brennan got to wear his shorts and tshirts. He looks so big in them. Zoes cousin Bronson came to play and they had fun watching movies on my bed. I also had a birthday that i got very spoiled for. I got a jogging stroller/bike trailer and some coupons from zoe, randall and brennan for cleaning and i also got cute jewelry and clothes. Randall took me to dinner at Tucanos and when we got home Randalls mom had made me a princess cake. We also had a day of shopping with my mom and my sisters. It was a very good birthday!

For Valentines we went down to Saint George for some much needed sun. We hiked around Snow Canyon and played at the sand dunes. I just wish i could have brought the sun back to Utah County!

We took our kids for a fun family night. We ate at Tucanos, and they both ate so good from the salad bar but they won't eat meat. After that we discovered a new place called Provo Beach Resort. I know a lot of people know about it already but it was our first time. Zoe and Brennan had a bawl. We played bowling and played in both the playgrounds.

Zoe went to the dentist for the first time. She wouldn't let them do x rays but they brushed her teeth and the dentist said she has no cavities. YEAH!
We went sledding on Martin Luther King Jr. day. There wasn't very much snow but it was a lot of fun. The kids like being pulled on the sleds.

The first night in California we went to dinner with my moms aunt and uncle and her cousin. After we went to the shopping center right by our hotel and they had a skate park. Brennan loved watching them skate board. We also got in the hot tub.

Chirstmas 2010

We did a small Christmas since we went to Disneyland. Zoe got a barbie doll house that she loves and some small toys with it.
Brennan was so happy with his tricycle. Zoe likes to push him around in it.
Makayla, Milly and Zoe on Christmas excited for Disneyland. My mom and wrapped everything in mickey mouse and got a cute figure of mickey.

I can never get the kids to look at the camera so this is our family on Christmas. We had a wonderful Christmas. I just love that time of year. Now on to 2011 and searching for a home for our family.

We went to the Big Red Barn in Santaquin today. I am not sure of the real name of it but its big and red. We didn't even know about this place until today. It was a blast. They take you on this hay ride to pick out a pumpkin and they also have some activities like a little maze and a truck and a tractor. Zoe and Brennan had so much fun. After they take you back to the barn where you can get ice cream, decorations and fresh fruit or juice. We got a gallon of fresh apple juice and it is very yummy.

For school this week we went to the pumpkin patch. Zoe had a lot of fun and I got to meet all the moms of all the kids. Don't you just love how Zoe is such a princess and poses like she is so cool!

Brennans Birthday!

This past Tuesday and Wednesday Jaidyn and Brennan turned one. I can't believe they are one, they are getting so big fast. We did a princess and the frog theme party for the both of them on Tuesday and got Jaidyn a Tiana cake and Brennan the frog. I didn't get a before picture of the frog but it was so cute. He ate almost the whole thing. To Brennan it was just another meal, he loves food. On Wednesday I did a party with just a few of our neighbors. I saw this golf theme party and had to do it. I made cupcakes and made the frosting look like grass and did a ball on it with a flag, and we also did club sandwiches. Brennan loves all of his presents and has been very busy with them all. We are hoping and praying for a better year this year with Brennan. He is such a blessing in our lives and we love having him around. Despite the past year he has always been smiley and so fun to be around. He has such a sweet spirit and I hope he continues to be that happy boy.

We went to the Zoo in September and I think the my kids favorite part was the train and playing in the play ground. There weren't very many animals out because they were doing construction so we were a little disappointed but we had lots of fun.

Zoe was the star of the day in school today. She had so much fun. She got to help the teacher with everything and be the leader in all the activities and bring the snack. I also got to go there and tell a little bit about Zoe to her class. She loves preschool and is getting a bigger personality being there. I love it!

Brennan has been working so hard on walking and he finally got it. He is still a little wabbly and looks drunk but we are so proud of him. To be honest i thought for sure he wouldn't walk before he turned one. He is so determined and i know he will be running in a couple weeks.

Zoe has been a very busy little 3 year old. She started preschool and dance this month and loves them both. She gets so excited on Tuesday nights cause she knows she gets to go to school and dance on Wednesday. I can't believe she is already in preschool but it so good for her cause she gets bored at home while all her friends are at school. She also started swimming lessons and that was a lot of fun to watch her learn to swim by herself with a life jacket on. She always had a smile on her face during lessons.

Zoe's 3rd birthday!

Zoe turned 3 on August 17th. She had a pinkalicious party. Everything at this party was pink. We read pinkalicious and played pin the cherry on the cupcake, painted nails, did a pinata and had some yummy pink food. It was a lot of work but very fun to do and it was so worth it. She had so much fun with her friends and family. She had two birthday cakes this year. Grandma Adams brought Zoe a really pretty princess cake that had a crown made of frosting. It was the cutest cake ever. She also had very bright pink cake with a cupcake in the middle. Zoe loved all of her presents and plays with them everyday. Don't mind Zoe's very funny smile. She was cheesing it a little!

We have been very busy after Brennan got home from surgery. We went to the parade for the 4th of July and then had fun on the water slide and having a bbq with family. We have been doing a lot of swimming and we just got back from Lake Powell. It is a picture overload but I couldn't decide which ones to use so you get to see them all. It was Brennans first time there and he loved it. He kept putting the sand in his mouth and laughing about it. Zoe met a new friend and i kind of think she had a crush on him. Brennan also had a friend, they played so well together. It was a blast and hope to go again soon.

Don't look at how lovely my hair and clothes are, it was early.

Today is a great day. Brennan got his last chest tube out so he only has stickers to check his heart rate and oxygen. They are not putting anything through his iv anymore but they left it in just in case. After they took out the chest tube we got him dressed and we went for a walk. After not holding him for a week while walking my are arms have become weak or he is just getting heavier. They also told us that we will be going home tomorrow morning if he keeps doing what he is doing. I am so excited. I think Brennan will be able to heal faster at home and he will be much happier to sleep in his own bed and so will i. I can't believe that this surgery is already behind us. I feel like we worried so much about it and it went by so fast. He will have to have another surgery but hopefully not until he is 15 or 16. They had to cut through his pulmonary valve so it will leak. I am hoping by the time he has to have valve replacement they will be able to do it through a heart cath and it will be same day surgery.

Today was a good day. Brennan had lots of visitors. He got so excited when he saw Zoe walk in the door and climb up on the chair to see him. They are best friends and I could tell they missed each other like crazy. We are hoping they take his last chest tube out tommorrow.

Yesterday Brennan got his art line out and so he was left with 3 chest tubes and one iv. This morning when we got here they had taken out 2 chest tubes so we are very pleased to say he only had one iv and one chest tube left. He is getting back to himself today. He was sitting up and playing and talking. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

We are so glad to find out that we will be moving up to the third floor today. Brennan is doing wonderful today. He is starting to get back to himself, i got a half smile today.

Today was a good day. Brennan is off of oxygen and is maintaining levels above 90. His fever is gone and we finally got to hold him today. I have been craving to hold him since i haven't held him since Tuesday. He will get and echo done Friday and we hope to move to the floor after they get that done.

Brennan is doing pretty good. He got extubated early this morning around 5:15 and has had to have a little bit of oxygen in his nose. He was trying to roll on his tummy all night last night and all day today so he has been getting a little frustrated. He also has had a fever all day until now. It is going down and we hope it keeps going down. He finally gave up around 8 tonight on rolling over and just decided to stay content on his back, I believe that is why his fever is going down. Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for him. It seems like he is a different little boy just laying there and not smiling or laughing like he usually does. We are very pleased with how well he has done so far and hope he continues to get better.

First post op surgery update

Today has been a very long day. We are so glad that the surgery is over and now we just have to focus on getting Brennan better and home. He is doing so good right now but things can change very fast so we try not to get to excited. They are hoping to be able to take out the tube in his throat sometime tonight or tommorrow morning. He keeps trying to pull it out and you can see he is trying to cry cause tears come out but he can't make any noise. I believe the worst part about being a mother is watching your child in pain and you can't do anything to help them. We had to crab his hands once and he was so close to ripping it out. I just want to thank everyone that has prayed for him and thought about him we really appreciate all of the gifts and prayers. We truly have to best friends, neighbors and family, thank you all. We had some family come visit him tonight and that has made it so much easier on me. Thank you everyone and keep praying for him. He is such a strong little boy and I know he will do very good at obeying me when i tell him we want to go home and get him better so we can play outside and enjoy summer.

Open heart surgery Day 1

We have begun this process to get Brennans heart fixed. We have been waiting for 3 1/2 hours now and they told us about and hour ago that he is on Bypass. We will keep waiting and hope for the best. Updates will come when he gets out. Please Pray for Brennan!

Brennan has figured out how to climb up on his crib. We will be lowering it sometime so he doesn't jump out like Zoe did. He thought he was so funny for climbing.
We went to Seven Peaks on Tuesday and the kids had a blast. Brennan has no fear of the water and wanted to go right along with everything Zoe was doing. Zoe loves the water as well and she thought it was fun to have Brennan there too. I don't think they would be my kids if they didn't like the water.

We have had a few firsts this week. Brennan has started crawling. Please don't mind the laundry pile i need to fold in the background. He is now into everything and is driving me crazy. Zoe didn't get into things at his age like he does. He is crawling just in time to go have surgery and lay down for 2 weeks. Hopefully it doesn't stop him from crawling after.

Zoe looked so cute dancing tonight. I still can't believe she i old enough to be in dance. She was the cutest duck there. When she got on stage she got a little nervous but she still did really good for her first time. After the show aunt Jen gave her a flower. She loves that flower now and won't let go of it. She even has to have it in her room while she is sleeping. She wanted to pose for the camera but she hardly ever looks at the camera.

After Brennan had taken a long nap we went to get him up and Zoe climbed in his bed with him. So I just let them play for a minute. They play so well together.

The weekend of May 1st we headed down to Saint George and spent the weekend with Randalls family and watched Russ pass the finish line at the Iron Man. The weather was chilly so we didn't get to go swimming but we did go for a walk/hike and did some minature golfing. We also went to a really cool park that had stuff for adults too. Zoe thought she was really big hanging out with the older girls. She also got tired and decided to lay on the slide with Grandpa.

Today I had the opportunity to go to a heart moms appreciation lunch. It was at Gardner Village at the Gathering Place. I met a lot of amazing women who all have children with heart defects. They had Paul Cardalls mother come speak to us about Pauls journey and then Paul played some of his music and then they did prizes. I am so grateful to these women. They give me hope and I don't feel alone when I am with them. We are all going through similar trials and it just makes me feel so much better that I am not the only one and I have someone to talk to about it. This event could not have come at a better time in my life. The past couple days I have been thinking more and more about Brennans next surgery which will be his big repair. I am realizing that it is coming up soon and I have been very nervous but after talking to these women I feel much better about it. I have met some great friends and hope to become better friends with all of them. I just want to thank Carolyn Quigley for everything, she is amazing!

Birthday Getaway

For my birthday this year we went up to Park City and stayed in a hotel over night. We went swimming and watched a movie and then went shopping the next day. Zoe had a lot of fun swimming and it was also Brennans first time. I think he enjoyed swimming but he did get a little blue around his lips.

St. Patricks Day!

For Saint Patricks day we went to lunch with my mom and my sisters and then spent the rest of the day doing hair and spray tanning. I had to get a picture of the kids in their green. Getting them all to look at the camera at the same time is so hard. Don't they all look so cute in green. Brennan and Jaidyn are almost sitting up. I think within the next month they will be sitting up on their own. That is when the real fun begins. Zoe doesn't like to look at the camera either but she does some really cute poses.

Brennan is our little snuggler and I love it. He gets so shy and just snuggles into your chest. I didn't think I could love a boy so much because I love my little girl. My friend Jamie told me that she has a special spot for little boys but I didn't think I would until I got him. He is for sure a mommas boy and Im not going to lie I love it!
Zoe and Brennan love each other. They like to lay on the floor with their blankies and play hide and seek. Zoe can get Brennan laughing so hard. In fact today I was doing the dishes and I heard them both laughing so I went in to see what they were doing and Zoe was dragging him around by his arms and he thought it was the funniest thing ever. I really wish I got a picture of it,
Zoe is now potty trained. YEAH! It is so nice to not have to buy two things of diapers anymore. She has done so good and only has had accidents if i dont hear her tell me she needs to go or if she get distracted. We took her to walmart to pic out a toy and she picked out this beautiful Cinderella dress. She looks so grown up.

For my moms birthday we went bowling. It was so much fun and Zoe loved it. She is always asking to go bowling now. Zoe loves her daddy and is always sad to know that he is at work during the day but on the weekends they are unseparable. Valentines!

This year Valentines was amazing. Saturday night we had a yummy dinner as a family and decorated sugar cookies. Randall and I celebrated our Valentines on Monday. Randall gave me a day at the spa. I got a massage, facial and pediure and then we went to a Flemings for dinner and then to the Paul Cardall concert at the Abravenell hall. He had a heart transplant last september and he plays the piano. He had a celebration of life concert. It was so cool to be there and hear about his story. The heart support group that we are in had posters up in the foyer and Brennan was on one of them. We also met some really neat people there that have lost a baby or have a baby with a heart defect and it makes me thankful that we are not the only ones and we have people to talk to about this. It was so fun to get dressed up and go out with Randall. I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines!

Brennan is 4 months old today. He is for sure Randalls little boy. They look like twins. Randall calls him his Minny Me. Time sure has flown by with him and it seems like his surgery was so long ago. He is doing so good. His oxygen levels are constantly at 96 so that is really good. He is almost about to roll over, we are working with him everyday. I can't believe how big he is getting. He is not an infant anymore and that seems so crazy. Soon he will be running around with Zoe.

Yesterday I took Zoe to the mall with Jocelyn and Stratton. We got corn dogs and did some shopping and also let them play on the rides.

My friends husbands sister made me a very cute quilt for Zoe's room. I absolutely love it. I am in the process of finishing her room in Black, pink and green with the damask pattern so this is just a start. Jocelyn and I also made two pillows to go with it, well I watched while she made them. I tried cutting the pattern but lets face it I am not good at sewing and I can't cut fabric at all. I love the pillows, they go perfectly with the quilt. Next I need to fix the pink paint and find cute decor for the walls.

I have been just looking at pictures of Brennan and Zoe and I came across these two pictures of Brennan and Jaidyn. They are one day apart and are cousins. Jaidyn is my sisters little girl. The first one is before Brennan had to be on oxygen and before his surgery and the second one is a few weeks after surgery. I cant believe how big they are both getting. It is going by way too fast. Before we know it they will both be running around chasing each other.

It has been a long journey so far with Brennan and he is only 9 weeks old. It is amazing how such a little spirit can have such an impact on our families life. He has been through so much in just a short time. This has been a very humbling experience for both Randall and I. We look at life very different now and are very grateful for both our children. I wanted to post pictures of Brennans life so far and how he is doing. We love our little boy and Zoe thinks she is a mommy to him, I love it. He has done so good since his surgery and he is so happy. He smiles all the time. I really feel like we brought home a new baby after surgery and we are all getting a lot closer to him. If you just met him today you would never know that he has a heart defect. I am very grateful to the nurses and doctors up at Primary Childrens who took care of us and our little Brennan. They made this experience a lot easier and made me feel at home while we were there. Until next time when he has his full repair in about 6-10 months.

Post Surgery - Day 4

Brennan is keeping up the progress. We are out of the CICU(which by the way is it's own little isolated section of the PICU just for cardiac kids, it's awesome!). We now have our own little room on the surgical unit. There's a possibility we could go home tomorrow since Brennan is already eating, pooping, and peeing really good. He just has to have a better chest x-ray. Last one was too 'fluffy' the doctors said. Just a little too much fluid in there. Another good thing is that his saturation levels are mid 90's on room air so NO MORE OXYGEN!Even when he gets really mad it doesn't drop below 90, before the shunt it would get down to 50 or so. It's amazing what a little pulmonary blood flow will do. Thanks for the continued prayers on our little man.

Brennan continues to do really good. He's been on room air since yesterday afternoon with saturation levels in the 90's. The only tubes in him are 2 IV's, no chest tube, PIC line, or ART line. The shunt is working really good! Hopefully later tonight they'll move him out of the ICU.

Post Surgery - Day 2

Brennan is doing awesome. They extubated him at about 8:30 this morning and he is so much happier. All night he was wiggling around trying to get this thing out of his mouth and now he's relaxed and looks very comfortable. He's only on 1/4 liter of oxygen and his oxygen saturation levels are at 100! His color just looks so much better than it has for the past 4 weeks. Thank you everyone for your prayers!

Recovery Begins

Brennan is recovering well in the PICU. He's comfortable lying here with all sorts of tubes in him. They're planning on extubating him tomorrow morning. I wish I could have posted a better picture but we left the camera cable at home so it's just from Janalee's cell phone.

We are thankful for the excellent job the staff here at Primary's has done. Brennan still has a long road ahead of him, including a bigger surgery, but things have gone as good as possible so far. We are thankful for Brennan. He's amazing. He's been through more in 6 weeks than I've been through my entire life. He's strengthened our family and increased my testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. He's allowed me to change my perspective on a lot of things. He's made me realize how we take good health for granted. He's made me a better person.

Brennan Out of Surgery

Brennan is out of surgery. We will go into the PICU to see him in a few minutes. His surgeon, Dr. Burch, said everything went well and Brennan did great. His saturation levels are already higher so he's getting good flow through the shunt.

Brennan Surgery Update

Brennan was scheduled to go in at 12:30 so he's been in surgery for almost an hour now. The surgery is supposed to take 2-3 hours so we should be getting an update soon. Brennan was a happy little boy this morning. I was getting him to smile a ton, he was being way cute. He was surprisingly calm this morning even after not eating for 4 hours. The anesthesiologist came and took him from us. It's really hard handing your baby off to a stranger but I know he's in good hands here at Primary's. We'll keep doing updates on this blog to let everyone know how it's going.

Brennan Going In For Surgery

It's official. Brennan will be going in for surgery Monday morning. We were hoping they would be able to do the total repair but the surgeons and cardiologists have decided that a BT Shunt would be the best thing for him right now. Janalee and I are already very nervous and scared for Brennan. The surgery has been around for a long time and I have the utmost confidence in the cardiologists and surgeons that will be working on Brennan. The good news is that they are going through his side and between his ribs so they don't have to cut through his sternum. They also don't have to put him on a heart lung machine which is great. The bad news is that this is still major surgery and there's always a risk. Please remember Brennan in your prayers. The total repair surgery will now be delayed for another 6 months or so. During this time the added blood flow to the pulmonaries will help them grow.

We are hoping to get him home before Thanksgiving without the need of Oxygen. We are very grateful to have Brennan here with us. He is such a special little baby and we love him so much. We are also grateful that Brennan's heart defect can be fixed. There are so many children born with heart defects that can't be operated on due to their complexity or other complications in the body. My heart goes out to families like the Bowmans. Their son Stephen was born with a defect very similar to Brennan's and the outcomes are totally different. I can't imagine the heartache this family is going through. I'm amazed at their strength and courage.

Zoe and Randall had fun raking and playing in the leaves at my moms house. They put them in a huge pile and then jumped in it and they both disappeared when they jumped. We were all laughing really hard.

Halloween Fun!

For Halloween this year Zoe was Tinkerbell and Brennan was a giraffe. We went to my parents house and Randall and Zoe went trick or treating around the neighborhood. Randall had to tell her what to say at the first house but after that she ran to all the other houses. She was so excited that people were giving her candy. She loved to answer the door at my moms and see what everyone was dressed up as. We also visited Randall parents and grandma and grandpa Edwards house. We had fun. Brennan spent he whole night in the house or in his car seat. Next year will be fun with two kids running around. Zoe and I went to our ward party and she had fun with her best friend Laney.

MRI Update

Brennan is out of the MRI and is recovering from the sedation. Because he is so little we have to stay here for observation for 12 hours or so. He did really well. They had to intubate him just to ensure his saturation levels stayed high. I guess the drugs for sedation cause the heart rate to lower and that will cause saturation levels to drop...and his are already low enough.

Moving forward the Cardiologists and Surgeons will all get together and look all the information over and will let us know what surgery they're doing and when. Dr. Su told us that he thinks they will be able to do the total repair which is what we are hoping for.

MRI Tomorrow

Tomorrow we are off to have an MRI done on Brennan. We've got knots in our stomach's just thinking about how this will go and what the results will be. The Cardiologists are very concerned about how small his pulmonary is and the Surgeons want to know exactly what their dealing with before they go in there. Brennan can't eat past 8 am and the MRI isn't until 1, we'll see how that goes...

Good news is that he's a very good eater, in fact I'd say he's a pig. He's already eating over 4 oz and weighs over 9 lbs! You'd never guess he has a heart defect other than those oxygen tubes and his purple lips when crying.

Visit To The Cardiologist

Today we took Brennan to the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic. We had noticed that he was starting to look more purple, especially when he got mad. His saturation levels dropped from 98 last week to 69/70 today. We were expecting a drop in his saturation levels but not like this. His right ventricle pressure has tripled since leaving the hospital. This causes the blood to flow from his right ventricle through the VSD(hole) and into his Aorta. It's supposed to only go through the Pulmonary and into his lungs. He's only getting fast flowing jets of blood into his Pulmonary right now. Right now he's on oxygen which is helping to get his saturation levels above 80. Something has to be done very soon. It's looking like Brennan will have his surgery very soon, maybe next week. The surgeons and cardiologist will decide if he's big enough to do the total repair, or if they'll just do a temporary fix with a B.T. Shunt. We are hoping they'll do the total repair, a surgery that would have to be done no matter what. Avoiding the shunt would mean 1 surgery right now instead of 2.

Here are just some pictures of Brennan we have taken in the past week. He has jaundice and so we have had to keep him sleeping in a bed with lights. It is pretty much a suit case. We think he looks cool in it with his Zorro mask on. My sister also had a baby last week a day before we had Brennan. She is so cute and very little. I hope they become good buddies.

We Are Home!

We got home about 9:45 this evening! Brennan keeps doing awesome. Today the cardiologists came again and talked to us. They said his ductus arteriosus had closed yesterday morning and his saturation levels continued to be high. They saw no reason for him to stay at Primary's so they let us go home. In newborns the pulmonary artery relaxes in about 2 weeks so we just have to watch out for cyanosis. So far so good!

As far as visitors go....

As with all newborns, you don't want them to get sick. That's the case even more so with heart kids. We would like to limit visitations as much as possible and if you have any sign of sickness please stay home. We're not trying to be rude, we just want to stay out of the hospital as much as possible...he's going to be there enough already.

Janalee and I are feeling extremely fortunate and blessed right now. So far this has been the best possible outcome. Brennan still has a very serious heart condition that will require an open heart surgical repair, hopefully not for 6 months. We still need all the prayers we can get. And please, pray for all the children and parents continually battling up at Primary's. Paul Cardall, CHD survivor and accomplished musician says it best: "Never, should we live in our own little worlds because other folks need our love, service, and care."

Quick Brennan Update

The move from the PICU went really well. He's actually in his own little room on the children's surgical unit because they are better equipped to monitor heart babies. They took his IV fluids out because he's starting to eat pretty good. We hope we get to go home tonight!

Update on Brennan

Brennan is doing awesome! They took him off the prostaglandin at 2:30 am this morning. He has been doing really well, keeping his saturation levels in the mid to high 90's. His pulse is strong and all other vital signs continue to be great.

We talked to the attending pediatric cardiologist Dr. Sue. After their analysis of Brennan they do not think he will need the B.T. shunt and will not require his repairing open heart surgery for 6 months! This continues to be the best that we could have hoped for!

They are moving him from the PICU to the normal nursery here at Primary's. If he starts eating good(we haven't even attempted to start feeding him yet) then we will get to take him home in a couple days.

As with all heart kids, his conditions could quickly change but he is looking really good. Thank you so much for all your prayers and fasting. We are truly blessed.

Brennan is Here!

Our special guy is finally here! Brennan was born on October 6th, 2009. He weighed in at 7 pounds 9 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long. Janalee did awesome and was a real trooper. Looking at her now she doesn't even look like she just had a baby.

Brennan is currently doing well. All of his stats are good but as with a lot of heart kids it can quickly change. They've started him on the prostaglandin which will keep a duct open to better circulate blood to his lungs. We won't know if he'll need the shunt until tomorrow.

This is as good as an outcome as we could have hoped for. Brennan came out screaming and bright pink. To be honest I was expecting more of a shade of blue. After he was born they literally passed him through a window into the NICU at the U. Once they made sure he was doing good I got to walk along with him in a cart that is basically a mobile NICU. They transported him to the PICU(pediatric ICU) where he is now comfortably sleeping.

We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for blessing us with this beautiful baby boy. Thank you so much for all the prayers and fasting so far, it really has helped. Check out the cute pics:

Intermountain Healing Hearts Walk!

On Saturday we had the opportunity to go do the Intermountain Healing Hearts fun run/walk. It was amazing how many people came to this. We walked one mile and then they got a big group picture. They did an angel ceremony where the families that have had a loved one die went and let a butterfly go. It was so good for us to be there and know that we are not the only ones going through this. I met a little girl there that has the same thing Brennan does and she is doing great. She had her surgery and was only in the hospital for ten days. I was so glad to hear that. We will for sure be doing this again next year and I hope we can get a big group to come out and support Brennan.

We went to Bridal Veil Falls and we also have been to the fountains in Highland. Zoe loves it there. I just wish Spanish Fork had one because it is a long drive to go there.

I know this is way late but I wanted to put a few pics of Zoe's second birthday party. We had a bbq with the family and she got very spoiled. She got lots of Tinkerbell stuff and Tinkerbell dress up, Strawberry shortcake doll and clothes and Cinderella doll. She was very happy to get all of those toys. Her cake was really cute with Strawberry Shortcake on it. Happy late birthday Zoe we love you!
